111 Navy Chair Launch

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

The other week I snuck off into the little streets of Chippendale to attend the launch of the 111 Navy Chair held at Corporate Culture. It was lovely to have been invited and I met some really warm and friendly people, including the Head of Emeco Gregg Buchbinder who was very giving of his time and happy to chat to all.

This new version of the classic Navy Chair is made of a minimum of 111 recycled plastic Coca-Cola bottles and it took 4 years of research to develop the tools and technology to create the chairs from this material. Gregg mentioned on the evening that one aspect of the project he likes is that the chairs have made more people think about sustainability and he is hoping to influence others to use up-cycled materials to create new products.

What do you think of these chairs and of the concept?

  1. I think the food looks yummo - ha! But seriously I love the navy chair, am looking at getting one to add to my collection of assorted white chairs to go around my great grandparents oak farmhouse style dining table. Will have to check out these new 111 materials, great concept.

  2. I love that they do this! I have three Emeco stools at my kitchen island. They have proven indestructible with three kids.

  13. I love the chairs in all the colours although it does now sadly remind me of work as work have gotten in a swag of navy chairs for all the eating areas! Love them though. Great recycling concept. I'd definitely get them knowing they were fully recycled.
