Store visit: Chapel St Bazaar

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

If you are new to Melbourne then Chapel Street is one place you need to tick off your list of things to do. Strolling the length of the street will take you a good hour or longer if you are like me and you tend to duck into every second store you see.

Stores gradually change from second hand clothing and home ware gems to the higher end fashion labels. People watching is one of the things I like to do here and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes on the street to sit with a cappuccino in hand and (in a non-stalkerish way) admire the people and the Melbourne fashion.

On my recent trip I wandered into Chapel Street Bazaar. This store is a must visit! Especially if you like antique furniture, collectibles and strange little bits and bobs and there are so many different styles of retro lighting hanging from the ceiling throughout - I thought I was in heaven.

My favourite displays from the store are shown here in these images. The dining table needs to be given a good home (third image) and I'm kicking myself for not picking up the number '9' metal plate (top image).

What are some of the best finds that you have made in an antique store? Did it come home with you or did it get away?

Such divine pieces... and I'm sure you'd see new, amazing things even if you visited twice a day. x

  4. Spent many an hour strolling along Chapel St, during my time in Melbourne. My fave vintage purchase, despite hubbies initial unimpressed state, is a gorgeous singer sewing machine and table which was tucked away in a dusty corner of an antique store. It now has pride of place as my hall table and is the first thing you see when you enter our home - nobody puts 'baby' in the corner!
