Fashion Friday: New Years Eve

Friday, December 31, 2010

One of my most favourite nights of the year. I usually save reflecting on the year gone past until the day after and enjoy the evening, the fireworks, friends.

Whatever you do tonight, have a beautiful one and I will see you in 2011.

Bedroom wall

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Have I told you lately how much I love you? When I was trying to decide whether to paint my bedroom wall a dark colour to compliment my new quilt I received mixed responses and also some suggestions. Here's a few:

I was also sent some images of my room with the wall photoshopped in different colours (thank you!).

The only thing stopping me for at least giving it a try is the amount of coats it will need if I decide to revert back to white if I change my mind.

A new kitchen for a new home

Monday, December 27, 2010

Was your Christmas lovely? Mine was. There was A LOT of food and we celebrated well into the evening. The weather was perfect.

Remember the kitchen project I mentioned a little while ago? I was asked to help with choosing materials for a kitchen that had been designed for a new home. I was able to see how it came together and here are some photos I took.

The materials used:

Antique Oak wood veneer for the bench and bar
Caesarstone benchtop in Ice Snow
White kitchen cabinets
Dulux Brume (1/4 strength) for walls
Porters Paint Dutchess Satin in French Silver for the wall behind the bar

The silver metallic wall may be repainted for a smooth finish but I like the way it looks as is as well. The uneven finish reflects the light beautifully and is less predictable than a smooth finish. I love it when "accidents" like these happen.

The kitchen is not yet finished. There is a metallic glass splash back is to be fitted. I can't wait to see how that looks!

Merry Christmas!

Saturday, December 25, 2010

While I wait for the little one to wake up from his nap so that we can dig into the BIG feast waiting for us, I wanted to wish you all a happy Christmas. Thank you for all your kind words and support you've given to me over the year. I am one million times grateful.

With lots of love from Robbie and I, a merry Christmas to you!

Always carry a camera

Thursday, December 23, 2010

It's the party season and there are lots of memories to capture. Lately I haven't been without my Diana mini.

It's love.

Gift wrapping

I did it! I went out and bought all of the gifts I'm giving this Christmas. I did it all last night. Phew. How is your Christmas shopping going?

The couple of gifts that I had picked up earlier I've wrapped in tea towels. Only a couple of sleeps to go...

Area rugs as art

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

I came across these rugs while browsing Eco Chic an Australian online eco friendly furniture and homewares store.

The rugs are made from renewable sources and are a collaboration between Australian indigenous artists and craftspeople from the remote Himalayan region of Kashmir. As with all Aboriginal art, each painting tells a story and is unique to the particular region of the artist.

If only the rugs were a little larger I would have purchased the Kathy Maringka rug for my living room in a heartbeat. They would made a great statement rug in a room. Art for the floor.

Give (or wear) a statement clutch

Sunday, December 19, 2010

This Christmas give (or wear) a statement clutch. This one is from EmersonMade and I've fallen deeply in love with it.

Going darker

Thursday, December 16, 2010

I usually think of light, bright colours but this year I have swayed towards darker, moodier colours.

I haven't incorporated darker colours in my home as yet until I purchased this Lazybones quilt. It is tempting me once more to paint the wall behind my bed black. I can imagine the reflection of the mirrored side table sparkling against the wall.

Should I? Or will the room stick out as being very different to the rest of my house?

More black wall love can be found here:

PS. I wrote about Lazybones over here too.

Interior Inspiration: Gold accents

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

I have really enjoyed flipping through the latest Rue magazine. The above image is one of my favourites from the magazine because of its gold accents and also the layout with the desk facing into the room as opposed to against the wall.

My study is quite small so I'm not sure this layout will work. I might have to rearrange some furniture over the weekend and give it a try. I have purchased something to hang on the wallpapered wall in my study. Can't wait to show you.

Painting by Madebygirl

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

When I saw this painting with its swirls of colour I had one of those "Why didn't I think of that??" moments.

Jen says it reminds her of lipstick and truthfully that's the first thing I thought of too. I had to share with you. See more here.

Shop vintage or vintage-inspired

Saturday, December 11, 2010

You might find something that will become a new favourite of yours like the above skirt from Adore Vintage has for me. I just picked up this cute 1960s party dress too.

Heels with bows will make you smile

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

These heels remind me of the final touch you might put on a Christmas gift - the big bow.

Try fixing a large bow to a pair of heels you might already own for a new look this party season.

(Heels are from Topshop)

Wear your necklaces BIG

Go bold with accessories.

Match your fingernails to your handbag

Sunday, December 5, 2010

December is silly season and this month I thought I might share with you some of my fashion (or otherwise) tips for the party season, starting with...

A hint of fun and not at all serious, wear it to work or over the weekend, this colour is more versatile than you might think.
