Shopping for a bed

Would you consider yourself impulsive? I wasn't sure if I was. I find I can put a lot of thought into the planning more so than the doing. Take the projects I have written about here. I haven't counted lately but I am pretty sure the number of projects yet to be completed far outweigh those that have been finished.

I went shopping with my mum over the weekend. What started off as a day of window shopping ended with me settling on this bed for my home (with the help of my twitter friends too - thank you!). Can you imagine it in my home? I think it might suit nicely.

My mum suggested pairing the bed with a stainless steel bedside table and I love her suggestion of mixing this traditional piece of furniture with a more modern material such as metal.

I am open to other suggestions though. What do you think?

  1. Lovely purchase, Viv. I can see the Metropolis Three-Leg Round side table from Coco Republic going very nicely with it.

  2. Love it! I feel the same way, sometimes I plan on how I'm going to decorate something for months but some of the biggest changes I make are totally on impulse.

  3. I think its a gorgeous bed!!! I think it would look lovely with metal bedstands! Good luck on finishing all the projects.

  4. Stunning bed Viv! I'm a fan of juxtaposing antique/contemporary, organic/refined too. Such different pieces often set eachother off and showcase eachother in a way you can't quite achieve with just 1 uniform style. I like the idea of S/S like your mum suggested! What do you think of glass bedsides? Checkout the "OTTO" side table at CATTELAN :) http://www.cattelanitalia.com

  5. Oh Viv..I absolutely love it...shopping on impulse definitely worked for you this time..although I do wish I was more of a planner like you...and I kind of am..but have to gather all the items together within a short space of time...I cant wait for things..Im terrible..lol
Love your mums idea about a stainless steel beside table...you can find some great old industrial type of ones on ebay which would look super with a bit of a polish.
Cant wait to see it all unveiled. Hope you and your little cherub are well lovely xo

  6. I almost bought the exact same bed Viv! From Domayne right? the Germaine or something like that? I ended up getting the upholstered Bordeaux from the same store. I like your mum's idea or perhaps even a mirrored side table would look stunning. It's very french so a mirrored bedside would pair beautifully with your new bed - I'm loving Laura Ashley furniture at the moment - they have some really lovely mirrored pieces. Just bought the Gatsby dressing table from Luara Ashley. Good luck!

  7. I'm trying to fall in love again with the bed that I already have and this pic does not help. lol! I ADORE this bed and love your Mums idea but with this bed I honestly think that you can have almost anything. Style wise, it's very flexible. Looking forward to seeing what you do. :)

  9. LOVE this bed ... its classic and beautiful. it sounds like your mom is on the right track with the bedside tables. i think it would look great.

  10. Love it. Its a heavy piece so paired with something heavy, like the metal side tables your mom suggested, sounds perfect. Maybe some crystally or clear glass pendants over the side tables to further the modern/traditional mix?

  11. The bed is really beautiful ant stylish, and stainless steel bedside tables is a perfect idea for this bed. I can also see it with shiny white round side tables. PS I adore your blog and have been following it for a while now. :)

  12. Stainless steel would be just lovely, but on a similar note I think a mirrored bedside table would look particularly striking.

  13. I love this idea! Your Mum is obviously a clever woman! As a suggestion, what about Whiteport's polished aluminium Bordeaux side table? It's contemporary yet classic. I think it would look stunning teamed with this bed...

And Whiteport have a 15% sale on until Thursday!

  17. Lovely suggestions thank you! Love the idea of mirror or glass too.

Vassi - we really do have similar tastes! Yes it is the St Germaine bed from Domayne. I was tossing up between this one and the Bordeaux which is the one you bought!

jade - Domayne is only located in Australia I'm afraid.
