David Bromley

David Bromley. He has become one of Australia's most collectible artists.

In his Female Nude series he has painted Megan Gale, Cheyenne Tozzi, Kristy Hinze, Collette Dinnigan to name a few. He's even painted Lily Allen for the subscriber's cover of May '10 Bazaar magazine (does anyone have this copy and no longer want it? I would happily buy it from you!). His work is easily recognisable and he captures the beauty of the female form with bold brushstrokes and metallic leaf/paint.

I was floored the other day when walking past a home with the lights on, curtains open and there, standing centre of attention was a large red Bromley nude hanging on the wall. I promise I don't usually make a habit of looking inside people's homes but I couldn't not look. It was amazing.

His other work is the Boys Own series where he paints childhood images full of innocence. Images of children flying kits, playing pirates or reading stories. I would very much like to buy one for my son's room. One day I hope.

PS: If you would like to read an interview with David, visit Daily Imprint.

I have been a long time fan of David Bromley. Living in Adelaide (David's home) I remember (a very long time ago now - like back in the 90's) going to my fave local cafe - the Tin Cat Cafe - and seeing David's gorgeous work on the walls there. The Tin Cat Cafe was (at that time) owned by his partner, Tory Dixon-Whittle. The 2-degrees of separation is prolific in Adelaide. (1) I use to work with Tory's brother. (2) One of my best friends is a friend of David's and I love visiting his house - his walls are COVERED in Bromley's (and other wonderful Australian artists' works). (3) A girl I was good friends with at school was also the subject of one of Bromley's nudes.

My dream, for many many years, was to eventually own my own Bromley but then I started seeing his work so often and it is in just about every house I visit these days that I can't help but feel like he's a bit too over exposed now. Seems everyone either has a Bromley, is getting a Bromley or has a friend who has a Bromley.

Time will tell I guess. There is certainly no doubt about his talent. He is extraordinary and I still love his work. Especially the Boys Own series. Thanks for the fabulous post about David Bromley.
