I have been in a world of patterns lately working on an assessment exploring various pattern designs over the centuries. To help me with my research I picked up a copy of Wallpaper: The Ultimate Guide by Charlotte Adams.

The book covers some of the key wallpaper designers and manufacturers, the history of wallpaper which I found interesting to read and provides tips on how to hang wallpaper and calculating the number of rolls you will need for a job. The book is also filled with over 150 full page contemporary wallpaper reproductions some of which I recognised but many that I didn't.

Wallpaper has come in and out of fashion over time but between us, I really hope it doesn't go out of fashion anytime soon. I haven't figured out how to take it down yet and from what I hear, the process is a tedious one.
Have you hung, or removed wallpaper recently? I would love to hear about your experiences.

Hung, but not removed!! I hope this trend stays around because I have plans to hang more in the near future! Love the images you've shown...

Removed but not hung! When we first moved in to our house. The key - LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER. Soak that sucker and it will come right off even if put on with superglue like in our house.
ReplyDeleteLooking for some paper for our new house in the powder room. No windows. Any ideas?
I have very vivid memories from my childhood of watching my mum painstakingly & singlehandedly scraping off the very 70's red & white floral paper in my bedroom. Its kinda scarred me! (I still specify lots though!)
ReplyDeleteWow Viv, what an amazing book. You are so lucky that your research material is so inspirational. Mine is filled with boring anatomy and mind numbing pathology. Oh, to walk in anothers shoes! Keep up the interesting posts, such a lovely distraction for me.... :-)
ReplyDeletegiozi: Oh Viv, thanks for share it. Looks great. A big huge.
ReplyDeleteRemoved- all kinds, and it's awful. Worst part is when all the water/ glue/ paste/ remover runs down your arms (working high on the wall) and into your armpits. I will never hang wallpaper, regardless of how much i love the design. I have never removed wallpaper where someone actually used sizing before hanging it, maybe I'd have a better opinion.
ReplyDeleteOh my.... That book looks heaven! I've yet to "tackle" wallpaper, but it would have to be worth the effort, right? Right??!
