This is the 'before' shot of the space:

And the 'after':
I'm usually the first to pick up a paint brush loaded with white paint when tackling a bare room but the use of black on the walls in this space is clever for two reasons, I think - 1. the black bookcases recede into the wall and the items on the shelves become the focal point and 2. the two-toned french doors and frame become a feature of the room.
The wooden floor and furniture looks great against the dark walls. Another interesting feature is the design of the floor that mimics the structure of the ceiling. A clever way of tying the room together, don't you think?

wow this is GORGEOUS! I can't wait to own a home and let me creative juices flow like this...incredible!
ReplyDeleteI am so in love with black walls right now! I want to paint the wall behind my bed black. I hear it's hard to paint with black though...how did you find it??
ReplyDeleteoh how fabulous is that. i just painted a wall in my bedroom black and i'm so in love with it. these images are making me wonder where i can use the other half of the tin!!
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Painting the wall and the bookshelf dark brings the eye on the books. Sometimes, a bookshelf is ignored unless the visitor is an avid reader.
ReplyDeleteWow, you're so right — That room looks great with black! I love that they painted the doors.
ReplyDeleteWow, what an incredibly beautiful way to change that space!! So beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI think I've seen the whole house somewhere and it's amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove the black wall, you are so right Viv!!
Yes, YES! This is gorgeous! I love black walls, I have one in my own home. Love what you did.
ReplyDeletethanks for the mention! i have to admit, that i got a lot of strange looks when i told family and friends that i was painting my study black, but everyone loves the way it turned out. my husband is the one to thank for the floor/ceiling design...when it comes to trim, he has no restraint! (kinda like how we girls are with our shoes and throw pillows!)
ReplyDeleteThat looks sensational! I'm usually on the white paint wagon too, but this has changed my mind. Love all of it, and that ceiling is to die for! K xx
ReplyDeleteThat's one of my favorite spaces! I looove the black ceiling ~ so unique and dramatic!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing :)
Oh yes please..I am loving this! I can see why you are gravitating to this look so much..it holds such opulence and sophistication..I would love to create this effect in a library...love it.
ReplyDeleteBlack is sooo brave, but usually pays off!
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation, it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving it.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling it would lead to less distractions, too, and that anything on the walls (not just the books, etc, on the book shelves) would really pop.
