Still working on the stairway makeover

Thursday, January 28, 2010

I have tried a few different colours for the walls of the stairway but I haven't found the perfect colour yet. I'll keep trying though.

I am thinking it will be nice to make use of this chandelier here. It is a shame to keep it in storage. I'm not sure if it will be easy for our electrician to hang though. It is a bit tricky to manoeuvre a ladder in this space and there is no current light fitting on the ceiling so new cabling would be required. This part of the house has a flat roof so no access from the top either. I think this idea might have to go into the 'too hard' (or impossible) basket.

  1. lol...your a funny one...still deciding on colours...I think it would take me twice as long as you to decide...the more shades I would find and fall inlove with ..the more confused I would get.
I love the chandelier...and why not still have it hanging as a decorative piece Viv...its so pretty? it doesnt have to be connected...does it?
I cant wait to see what you do with this space...but the anticipation is killing me..lol x

  2. Oh, I hope you (or your electrician) can find a way to hang it! It would add such nice sparkle. Would you consider hanging it even if it couldn't be wired?

  3. Hi Viv, I also think that it's a shame that you can not use this gorgeous chandelier. I'm thinking that there's maybe one solution to hang it. You could always put a L shaped metal piece on the wall, paint it white or the same color of the wall and let the chandelier hang from it. I know my poor english doesn't help much to explain it, but I think I have photos where you could see what I am talking about. Let me know if you want me to send them to you!.

    Your blog is addictive! ;)

  4. Where there's a will, there's a way. It's probably easier than you think. x

  5. That is one white hallway, narrow and long. The best designers would have trouble decorating it.

I love that chandelier! It would be perfect in the hallway. Have you consulted with an electrician yet? You may be surprised what they can do without too much trouble.

  6. Thanks for letting me 'think out loud' :)

I will give our eletrician a call and see what he says. If it can't be done, I think hanging it as a decorative piece is a great idea too.

  9. Hi Viv - one thing that I really subscribe to is the saying ' Where there's a will - there's a way'! I really believe that nothing is impossible, and if your electrician says that it is impossible to connect and hang your beautiful chandelier, then in my experience - find another one. We were told we would not be able to do a lot of things when we renovated our kitchen, so I just found other tradesman with a more 'positive' attitude and who were willing and able to do what I wanted. Good luck, I'm really looking forward to seeing both your paint choice and your stunning chandelier :) Have a lovely day - Tina x
PS - sorry for the novel ;)

  10. I love the chandelier - it woudl work very well in there! I agree with Tina, I am sure there would be an electrician out there that would make it work. Good luck and I can't wait to see the finished room! Katrina x

  11. oooohhh the chandelier would look amazing and if the top part of the walls were wallpapered with say a black & white print, with the bottom half white, or dramatically black - amazing!

hmmmnnn you might need a scaffold to get that high...

  13. Oh there is no such thing as impossible Viv. Trust me.... I built a house with completely disinterested builders... you've just got to find someone who is... interested... keeping ringing electricians until you find one who will do the job. You must have that chandelier... it will make the stairwell! Wash those 'too hard' words out of your mouth! A-M xx
