Mismatched lamps

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

I am slowly replacing a few of the older pieces in my home which includes the old lamps in the bedroom. It is not that I don't like them anymore, I do, I would just like a little change since I have had them for many years. The new lamp above was picked up for a bargain. Another white piece to add to my home.

There wasn't a matching pair though (I picked up the last one) and so the bedroom looks a little mismatched with the antler lamp on the other side of the bed. The antler lamp is much taller so I propped the new lamp onto a book to get the scale right. I'm undecided on how this looks but I might live with it for a little while. If I change my mind, the new lamp will be used in the study and the antler lamp will go back into the studio.

Robert has new lamps for his room too which I'll share with you another time. I am looking for the perfect shades. Boy, I sure can talk a lot about lamps can't I? :)

  1. I think it works Viv! Tonally they work and they're both simple classic designs, i say it's a winner.

I how i do love a bargain, bet you were thrilled to find that lamp - it's lovely.

  2. Hi Viv - I think they look fantastic! As Jules so eloquently said, tonally they work. I love that they are not identical, it really complements the wonderful personality of your beautiful home - love them both! Enjoy those lamps! - Tina x

  3. I quite like them. I certainly like them being different. Another idea is a glass base similar to the new lamp - I kind of like the contrast of textures between the antlers & glass. I have been looking for the perfect lamp for my family room for 9 months - so I understand your obsession.

  10. Been meaning to ask you Viv where you got your white quilted bedspread? I am looking for something similar with a scalloped edge

  11. Thank you. I think I am getting used to the look :)

Emma - the bedspread was bought from a little homewares store in Concord a few years ago. I bought the last back then but if you'd like to visit the store they are called Bella Nice - 87 Majors Bay Road, Concord - (02) 9743 0074. They may have other designs in stock.

  13. Hi Viv,
Did the shade come with the lamp base? I have been trying to find a nice land shade everywhere and I am really struggling - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  14. Hi Sally, it did. Have you tried Freedom? Another favourite store of mine is Melinda Love. I'm not sure if she sells just the lamp shades though but the designs are pretty.

Does anyone else have any recs?
