Inspired by Shannon Fricke

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Interior stylist Shannon Fricke has created a beautiful, simple, relaxing and stylish home. My dream home.

I do wish we had an entryway as pretty as hers. Walking into our home the first thing you see is a large wall with a TV in front. Ugh. I don't mind the TV, I just hate that it is the first thing you see when you walk into our home. I've been trying to work out a good way of decorating around it without hiding it.

Shadow Floral Florence Broadhurst paper. Image via Signature Prints.

I really like the wallpaper Shannon has used in her home. Perhaps if we were to decorate the TV wall with this wallpaper then the TV will not be the focal point? I might be clutching at straws though.

Our living room, taken on the day of the Real Living shoot.

In the words of Winnie the Pooh, "think, think, think". I might sit on this idea for while.

Have you seen any good TV decorating ideas?

  2. I'd love to hear any solutions you come up with Viv. I have a similar problem. I love Anna Spiros shelving unit that houses her tv and a collection of beatiful display items in shelves around it. I think this looks great but only if the shelving unit looks built in from one wall to another. My TV wall is shared with an ajoining room which makes it hard. I like your wall paper solution, it would be very bold.

  3. Inspired - the rug was brought in by Jason Grant who styled my home for the shoot. It's lovely isn't it? A great summer rug.

Rose - Anna's shelving unit is lovely. My TV wall is shared with the kitchen so I can't go for that option either. I'm thinking the wallpaper idea might be too bold.

  4. I like the wallpaper solution too Viv! As long as you don't get sick of the pattern/coloud? Anna's house is amazing - I am especially in love with her Straddie house actually. I am getting a new couch soon in a natural colour but I very much like that rug...am thinking a bold colour rug would contrast better.

  6. Do it! We went with crazy wallpaper in our hallway and while I still can't believe how brave we were, we love it.

  7. Love the idea of wallpaper. It will definately draw attention away from the TV if you go for something quite bold - like the one Shannon used!

Decorating around a TV makes me crazy. We bought a white one, which helps, but it still 'right there' in the living room!

Shannon's home is fantastic! so light and airy...my favourite TV decorating show is Design Inc/Sarah's house - Sarah Richardson has such a wonderful style - she creates rooms I want!!
