Kokeshi dolls

Not my dolls but these are just adorable

Oh you should see the smile on my face. I have finally managed to begin a collection of kokeshi dolls that I've admired for a long time now.

I was never really 'into' dolls when I was a little girl so I have no idea what has sparked this up now but it's here and I must indulge so I am looking forward to receiving 2 dolls in the mail. I will admire them daily and dust them lovingly.

In my search I also came across this custom kokeshi doll on Etsy. You choose the hair colour, kimono style and designs, what your doll will be holding, accessories and a personal message. Cute!

Also while I'm on the topic, a friend introduced me to kimmidolls. Have you heard of them?

Tell me, what do you like to collect?

  2. These are divine! Me, too, if I had to start a doll collection, it would be kokeshi. I only have two. Hmmm... seems like I need to go back to Japan. Quelle horreur! ;)

  6. Love the post. Great find with the customised doll. I'm not sure if I hate the commercialised nature of Kimmidoll or love the accessibility of it. I like the magnets and a glass wall clock they make, and various notebooks. Very easy to get hooked on collecting kokeshi, be careful haha. I've stayed away (for now).

  7. So cute!! I haven't heard of these before- where do you get them from?

  8. Bonnie - I bought the kokeshi dolls from ebay. There are lots on there.

Katia - I know what you mean. It seems like an old art that has become commercialised. Admittedly I don't know enough about the history of kokeshi dolls though. I should research it. The kimmidolls are very cute though. Thanks for introducing me to them :)

  10. You're welcome, lovely! You know how much I love cute stuff haha. They are adorable, what I love the most is that they have matching notebooks, etc so even if you don't collect the dolls you could have a clock or something in your room or bag that had the pretty design on it. The dolls themselves are lovely. How awesome would it be if your family collected these and they were passed down? There must be some famous masters and villages that are famous for crafting kokeshi, we must research this. :)

  11. Ha!...so cute.
We used a set of his & her Chinese bobble head dolls on my Sister-in-Law's wedding cake, and recycled again for another friends wedding cake. Real life should have a real dose of humor.
