Bedroom walls

I caught homeMADE last night and I liked the home Chontelle and Richie designed with all that black and white. I am a fan of Jason's work but I really thought Chontelle and Richie would win that challenge.

I was inspired by the guestroom created for the Mansour's and I'm toying with the idea of stripes in our bedroom. In the room above the stripes are actually wallpaper by Porters Paints. My preference would be to paint the stripes so that we can paint over if we tire of them. I'm dreading the task though - all that measuring, taping, painting and crossing all fingers that the stripes don't end up crooked.

Here's what the room looks like at the moment:

Wall colour is Dulux China White in half strength

Is it worth giving a go or should I leave the room as is? Perhaps a softer combination of white stripes on the existing wall colour is better. My other idea was the hang wallpaper like this. Hmm...

  1. I also admired these stripes! Your bedroom is just gorgeous the way it is, but stripes would also look fantastic. I wish I was game enough to paint stripes - good luck!

  3. I adored those stripes too in that room. I actually loved their house much better too (on a side note).

I think i am going to try stripes, just a much larger, chunkier style! x Cant wait hear what you decide!

  4. While I think it's great as a short-term idea, I think you'd get tired of it long-term and could tire of it quickly. If you're anything like me and want your eyes to rest when you're feeling tired or cranky, the walls could irritate them or appear too harsh/stark.
I also couldn't do black/white vertical stripes but for personal reasons (concentration camp nightmares), nothing to do with design or the colours themselves. I think they look great as a design concept but softer colours would be more practical and easier on the eyes when tired, since it is the bedroom and is for sleeping etc. I never expected myself to be thinking about practicality and sleep hygiene over prettiness but here I am, ahaha.

  5. I'd leave it as is or do one wall in one of those lovely floral wallpapers from your other post - those stripes look too dizzying!

  6. I think you should totally do the bold stripes in the guestroom. Guestrooms are perfect places to experiment and go a little wilder than usual. I think it looks absolutely fabulous!! I did pink & white stripes in my baby girl's room, it's cute.

  7. I can see why you're attracted to the stripes - they're fun! It would be nice to add something to the wall. If you really wanted to do the black and white stripes, you could always make the stripes quite a bit wider so there wouldn't be so many of them and, like they did, use a warm taupe color instead of actual white. you could also just do the headboard wall in the stripes and the rest of the room in the warm taupe. good luck!

  9. the stripes are GORGEOUS... but way too intimidating for me to try... what about strips of wallpaper instead of painted on?

  10. I love your bedroom as it already is – so tranquil, breezy and elegant! Also, do you notice how small the heavy stripes make the other rooms appear? Just something to keep in mind...

I'm a fan of the wallpaper panel idea. Much easier to change out when the mood takes you!

  11. I would do it ... but then you'd need the black chandelier too, and then it would all spiral out of control from there
